Should your employer try to improve your lifestyle?

No one wants their organisation to tell them how to live their own life, yet people value organisations who show concern for their health and well-being. Danna and Griffin reviewed the literature as long ago as 1999 and found that providing health & stress intervention programmes to staff improved health and job satisfaction and decreased employee absenteeism and employee turnover.

Just allowing employees to have cut-price membership at a Gym can have a minimal effect, but perhaps combining it with an internal-health promotion campaign can have longer lasting and far-reaching improvements. Sometimes it appears that just knowing the Gym (or similar resource)is there can improve things, as people like knowing they could take part even if they never do.
